Kerygma and Catechesis

This site is dedicated in part to exploring topics related to two key concepts in Christian discipleship and faith formation; Kerygma and Catechesis.  Kerygma is the Greek word translated "to proclaim" it is associated with the preaching of the Gospel, (Luke 4:18-19) whereas, catechesis is the word in the Greek used for "instruction" (Luke 1:3-4).  These two words describe two aspects of Christian discipleship, the preaching and proclamation of the Gospel and the instruction required to ground, root and build Christians in the faith.

This site will also be dedicated to addressing topics related to theology, evangelismcatechismal instruction, and worship and liturgy, social justice, LGBTQ+ inclusion and their relationship to faith formation.  I will post articles, resources, videos or additional helps that are related to themes used in the lectionary or selected topics dealt with in the pulpit.

Below are a few highlights from this blog that may be noteworthy.  The On-line Catechism Collection is a collection of catechisms available from across the internet from Orthodox, Catholic and Protestant denominations.  The ARDA web site includes a comprehensive map of the branches of Christianity, the Liturgical Collection, is a collection of liturgy from across the internet, and Exploring Confirmation, a site engaging the theory, theology and practice of confirmation in the church today.  Art and Faith is a devotional resource featuring spiritual meditations on select works of art themed for Advent, Christmas, Lent and Advent.  "321-the Story of God" is a trinitarian presentation of the gospel in a very short video.  A short expositional article on Kerygma and Catechesis follows the links below.

Another focus of this blog will be to serve as a supplement to the weekly sermons or lessons that I may be preaching or teaching in any current parish/church capacity.  Typically following the lectionary readings, I may comment on various contemporary topics, headlines, public policy issues, church and society issues that may have a connection.   Occasionally, I will publish sermons or talks that I give during the week.  It is my hope that some of what is written or posted from other third party sources will be a valuable addition to the reader's spiritual life and journey.
