During the Feast of Pentecost, the disciples of Jesus were gathered in fear behind closed doors. Although they had met the risen Christ, and were likely still processing their experience with him, they remained expectant of a promise that Jesus gave, that the Spirit of God would come to them and empower them to be witnesses. As they awaited, the promise of the Holy Spirit shakes the room in which they are gathering. This is the Spirit that comes with the power to take our heart of stone and enflame it with Christ's passion, to melt it, ignite it, and transform it and so enable us to be witnesses of the love and grace of God in our world today.
