Response to the Coronavirus Precautions: Umatilla, Florida

To our church family,

Last night, our session voted to cancel our worship services for the rest of the month of March.  That includes Sunday, March 22, and Sunday, March 29–the fourth and fifth Sundays in Lent. 

This decision was not made out of fear or panic, but following the guidance from the CDC, and from the governor’s office.  This is in line with the effort we are now seeing in other places to help stop any potential community spread of the Covid-19 virus.  

Additionally, the church property is also closed for the rest of March.  All church related activities with the exception of Hearts and Hands have been cancelled.  We will leave it up to Hearts and Hands to decide for themselves if they would like to continue to meet in another location.  

While the property may be closed, the church (the body of Christ) is still active and following Jesus’ mission!   We will have to start trying to worship via new on-line experiences through email, Facebook or other platforms. We will be attempting some new ways to stay in touch and communicate with each other as we walk together through this time.  If you have access to a computer and the internet, please go to “Facebook”, find First Presbyterian Church of Umatilla, and select the “follow” option.  

Starting tomorrow, you will receive a daily email from me that will include scripture text and a daily devotional via email.  

Please continue to communicate any prayer requests or concerns through our regular channels. 

Looking to the future, the session of First Presbyterian Church of Umatilla will continue to monitor recommendations coming from public health officials, government officials, and our Central Florida Presbytery as we make further decisions.  

We also ask that you consider mailing in your First Presbyterian Church donations, tithes and offerings to the church.  Our operating costs will continue during the church’s closure.  We are so very grateful for our faithful members and friends that make the ministry possible.
